Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed largely of the mineral calcite. The primary source of the calcite in limestone is marine organisms, although other sources do occur. It is a perfect material to use in bathrooms or kitchens as tiles, shower trays, cladding and vanity tops.

Limestone is widely used as a stone flooring material, and is suitable for enhancing both a contemporary and a traditional feel. A wide range of lovely muted tones and tints are available, from pale whites to darker golden or reddish hues. Onyx is formed of bands of chalcedony (a type of quartz) in alternating colours. Since it is translucent, it is often used to create walls with light positioned behind the walls.

Its bands are parallel to one another, as opposed to the more chaotic banding that often occurs in agates (semi-precious gemstones).

Slate is a fine-grained, homogeneous, metamorphic rock derived from an original shale-type sedimentary rock composed of clay or volcanic ash through low grade regional metamorphism. It is most often used for floor tiles, hearths and kitchen worktops The material splits easily into sheets and most commonly comes in green and black shades.

Travertine is a sedimentary rock which is deposited from the water of mineral springs or streams saturated with calcium carbonate. It is used as floor and wall tiles, for cladding, and to make bathroom items such as basins and stands, vanity tops and baths.

When pure, travertine is white, but often it is a yellow to brown colour due to impurities. It is a hard and durable stone, typically quite porous with numerous cavities.
